Project Overview

Back in 2022, the World Health Organization put together a team of 7 experts from around the world that specialised in different areas with the goal of writing an 'Implementation Guide' that would practically and pragmatically help country leaders work toward Universal Health Coverage in their unique national and subnational contexts. (UHC = progressing health systems to be as affordable as possible, as accessible as possible, and as high quality as possible)

Somehow I ended up being one of the seven experts. Then somehow ended up leading the project.

The Team

After navigating a rigorous procurement process, we set to work. We began with a write-shop down at Gillians shack in Tasmania. Gillian, Vivian, Aumea and myself attended in person, whilst Mario tuned in from Spain, Stephen from France, and Xiaoyun from China. We were each responsible for writing different sections which were peer-reviewed daily.

After the initial write-shop, I reviewed all the outputs, then pulled these together into the first attempt at a cohesive document. Gillian and Vivian than worked on a new version, before further reviews and iterations were undertaken by the rest of the team. After a lot of back and forth between WHO and the team, I finalised the last version and submitted it to WHO. We finished writing it in 2023 before it then took another 18 months to move through WHO’s editing and publication process and then be launched online.
