Project Overview
For a number of years Lantern has been looking for solutions to more sustainably service development work in the Pacific. The opportunity arose to purchase S/V Matsu late 2023. The boat was the right build (full keel, skeg hung rudder, centre-cockpit) for blue ocean water cruising. Yet it had been largely sitting for the previous ~6 years. Whilst the previous owners had looked after the vessel well, boats don't like to sit still for long. Most of the running rigging needed to be replaced, many of the instruments didn't work and there minimal navigation equipment onboard. In addition, the boom needed replacing, the mainsail was torn and needed replacing, internal showers didn't work, there was unknown hull damage, the electrical systems were dangerously wired, and whenever the boat was taken out, the engine would die.
The first port of call was to establish a workspace and reliable satellite internet connection. With this in place, billable work could be conducted during the day, whilst boat work could be undertaken during evenings and over weekends. This work is still underway ... more updates to come.
