Project Overview

After operating for over 10 years, and across two regions, the Asia Pacific Observatory contracted myself to undertake a review of the organisation and make recommendations for next steps.

Initial review + retreat

Working closely with Prof. Gillian Biscoe AM, we interviewed current and past board members, academics and other advisory members. The resultant report was disseminated to the board before a board retreat held in Manila. At the board retreat, Gillian and I facilitated various discussions and workshops to support the board to identify it's desired vision for the organisation. What emerged was an enlarged vision for where the organisation could be, and a strong commitment to working on plans to get it there.

Strategy development

Following the Manila retreat, the APO re-engaged my services to develop a strategy that would achieve the vision agreed in Manila. This strategy was presented, refined, and agreed upon at the next board meeting held in Bangkok.

Business planning

With a new strategy agreed, the missing piece was to develop a business plan that would achieve that strategy. I worked closely with director of the APO Dr Nima Asgari, and further supported by Gillian, to develop a business plan that sought to balance ambition with feasibility in a way that was also deeply strategic. The resultant was business plan was officially adopted at the next board meeting held in Manila. Here the previous Regional Director of the World Health Organization, Dr Shin Young-soo, exalted it as one of the best strategic documents he had witness in his long career. And Prof Gillian Biscoe remarked it was one of the finest pieces of work she'd been a part of.
